Punarvasu Nakshatra
When the Moon is in Punarvasu:
Punarvasu is symbolized by a quiver of arrows, signifying one’s direction, goals and life path. Punar means “repetition” or “again”, Vasu means “prosperous” or “good”. This is a great time for revisiting and renewing your lifestyle: begin a cleanse;; sign up for workshops to learn about healing, nutrition etc; start taking natural remedies; start a spiritual practice such as meditation or chanting. Any activities to innovate and improve your immediate surroundings are favored now: start a garden; clean and decorate the house; buy or start the construction of a new home; take your vehicle in for a repair or buy a new one etc. As the presiding deity, Aditi, the mother goddess of abundance and prosperity suggests, it is a great time for expansion and enrichment both materially and spiritually. If there are any resolutions you couldn’t follow through before, it is the time to try again. Punarvasu is ruled by Jupiter and lies over Gemini and Cancer, ruled by Mercury and the Moon respectively. This is a time to share joy with your loved ones: go on a trip with your friends or family; spend some time with your children; join a humanitarian cause
Who is
Purnavasu?
A SPIRITUAL AND CONTENTED OPTIMIST”
A SPIRITUAL AND CONTENTED OPTIMIST”
You are here
to direct people to their true paths. You are a very simplistic, harmonious and
contented person, who knows the true meaning of peace. This comes from the fact
you appreciate what you have and you own the inner strength and wisdom to stay
away from negativity. Even if you are going through hardships, you are able to
stay positive and are never destructive. Like the presiding deity Aditi, the
mother of all the demigods, you are very protective of your own and your loved
ones’ inner growth. You are also nurturing and giving to others and enjoy
loving exchanges with your friends and family. “Make yourself at home” is a
phrase meant for Purnavasu; you have a special ability to make people feel
“safe” in your presence. You are like the “Temperance” card in the tarot deck;
whatever happens in your life, you try to be accommodating and reasonable, and
not get weighed down by fear, anger or revengeful emotions. Just like the
symbol, a quiver full of arrows, you never lose sight of your goal and always
keep moving forward. You know life does not have to be dramatic or complicated,
if you focus on your spirituality. You always try to observe your inner journey
in the most sincere manner, and when inspired, you love to express it through
writing or any forms of artistic endeavor. Thus, you point people toward their
real life purpose. Purnavasu is ruled by Jupiter and lies in Gemini and Cancer,
ruled by Mercury and Moon respectively. You can be too philosophical and get
lazy physically or mentally in your everyday life. Also, since you are a
trusting and happy go lucky person in general, you might jump into something
without thinking of the risk. You might not like confronting anybody and drag
on unnecessary relationships for a long time, thinking it will benefit in the
future. The advice here is to be discriminative in everything you do whether it
be your life choices or relationships. Be the happy person you are: follow the
arrow to the divine!
Footnote
Punarvasu is ruled by
Jupiter, and this Nakshatra always reminded me of Jupiter Retrograde in a
chart. Wherever Jupiter may be, it gives the ability to succeed where others
have failed. This is the time to apply the phrase “If at first you don’t
succeed, try, try again”. A great King of Puri had been defeated in battle.
When he went before Lord Jagannatha, the Lord of the universe, and complained,
the Lord replied that the King was defeated because he had gone into the battle
without the Lord’s blessings. However, if he re-grouped his troops, Lord
Jagannatha and his brother Balarama would personally fight on the King’s side.
On his way to the battle, the King remained doubtful of their presence till he
met a lady who was selling drinks. She told him that two soldiers had passed:
One was on a black horse and the other was on a white horse, and they had left
one of Jagannatha’s valuable jewels as collateral, claiming the King would pay
their bill. His spirit being renewed, the King easily defeated the other troops
and became victorious.

Remedy /Sacred Energy: Vaaniyambadi Sri
Adhidheeswarar
The energy vortex associated with Punarvasu star is located in the
North Arcot District near Vellore in Tamil Nadu, India. Those born in the star
of Punarvasu should visit this sacred shrine at least once in their lifetime.
Lord Brahma performed fire rituals that caused Goddess Saraswati
to lose her oratorical abilities. She performed penance and held great
concentration to regain her voice. Goddess Saraswati took the form of Goddess
Vani and received assistance from her teacher, Hayagreeva. Lord Shiva commanded
Vani to use her glorious voice and sing to him. Thus, the temple is known as
Vaaniyambadi. It is at this temple that higher learning and philosophy can be
completed in the blink of an eye through the grace of Lord Shiva. This temple
is an auspicious site for wisdom.
In the sacred shrine at Vaaniyampadi, Goddess Kalaivani Sri
Saraswati Devi incarnated as a woman who cooked for Lord Shiva. On each
Punarvasu star day and Full Moon day, she performed an abhishekham to Lord
Shiva and offered white flowers to Goddess Saraswati. Those born under
Punarvasu star should feed a hungry person and offer prayers to Sri Annpoornai
Devi every day. They can offer the food directly to the people or through
charities. In addition, these people can offer food to unannounced guests or
travelers. This includes offering food to ancestors and pilgrims. Feeding
ancestors allows the next generation to prosper and is a good way to prevent
family problems.
Punarvasu day is a time of growth and is also a powerful day for
teachers to walk around the temple at Vaaniyampadi, from left to right. They
can also perform an abhishekham for Lord Sri Adhidheeswarar and Goddess Sri
Saraswati. Teachers and those in hotel management should offer prayers for
increasing potential in their careers. Offering food on Punarvasu days,
Pradosham days, Shivaratri and Wednesdays will benefit the progress of children
in education.
