Venus- Ruler of 2nd and 7 th house ] vs Jupiter- Ruler of 9th &10th house [Analysis]
in any horoscope,
the seventh and second houses are ruled by Venus. Venus represents the
attractiveness aspect of this universe. Everything that is beautiful,
attractive, filled with 'rasa' (juicy and luscious), and arrests our attention
is ruled by Venus. The first house or lagna which is opposite to the seventh
house and twelfth from the second house is ‘us', the native whose horoscope is
being considered. All of us in reality are divine souls, and purpose of our
birth according to Jyotish vidya is to attain liberation or 'moksh' through
Self-realization. But ‘moksh’ is possible only if we develop the 'nivritti'
(introspective, contemplation, self-reflection, meditation etc. ) tendency
basically going inwards . The attractiveness of Venus or the
seventh house leads us on the 'pravritti' (outward going nature, getting
tempted easily by outer glitter of things etc.) path. It causes us to become
trapped deeper and deeper in the 'Maya’ of the outer beauty of things. More
attractive the seventh house things (everything and everyone that we interact
with in all our intimate relationships, especially our spouse, people from the
opposite sex in general, and our best friends and partners) appear to us, more
we develop attachment to them which is represented by the second house
also called as family
house . So, due to greater attachment or increase in attachment
(indicated by second house in the Kaalpurush horoscope and even generally), we
as 'souls’ are trapped more deeply by 'Maya'. Obviously, to our ancient
enlightened or Self-realized rishis who laid down the rules of Vedic Jyotish,
this excessive attachment to 'Maya' was equivalent to death. So, they
designated the seventh as well as the second house as 'marak' (death causing)
houses. These houses indeed are like death to our prospects of Self-realization
or attaining 'moksh' by miring us in excessive temptations, addictions and
attachments.
If you look at the ancient Indian
mythology, Shukracharya (the planet Venus depicted as a character in these
myths), is the teacher of the demons. On the other hand, Brihaspati (the planet
Jupiter) is shown as the teacher of the 'devas' or the gods. Why is this so? It
is so because all the demons are excessively attached to external pleasures
[call it
as demon in us ] and sensual enjoyments and have no love for
the 'Brahman', the Supreme God Vishnu. In fact they often try to even fight
with the 'devas'as well as Lord Vishnu. All of the sensual tendencies are
aggravated because of the teachings of their teacher, the planet Venus or
Shukracharya, who rules the sensual enjoyments. These tendencies take them
further and further away from devotion to God Vishnu, the Supreme Truth. Without
love for God, the demons have no chance of attaining Self-realization.
Shukracharya's teachings (sensual distractions caused by the planet Venus, the
ruler of the seventh and the second house in the Kaalpurush horoscope) are
responsible for this unfortunate fact for the demons (people who are
excessively attached to 'Maya' and not devoted to Lord Vishnu or God).
On the other hand, Brihaspati
(Jupiter) just adores God, Truth and is a teacher on the path to
Self-development and Self-realization[helps
us to travel inwards ]. He teaches the 'devas'
(people with Divine or 'nivritti' tendencies) to love God Vishnu and be devoted
to him and true wisdom. He teaches 'viveka', the ability to discriminate
between the transient (Maya) and the eternal (Brahman, Dharma, Lord Vishnu). He
helps 'souls’ to let go of Maya and cultivate true wisdom by seeing the inner
reality of things and not be mesmerized by the external glitter (Venus or the
seventh house significations). That is why Jupiter rules the 9th house (house
of wisdom, Sadguru and Dharma) and the 12th house (the house of 'moksh' or
liberation) in the horoscope.
I hope that now it is clear to
you why the seventh house as well as the second house are considered as 'marak'
houses by Vedic Jyotish. The planets in these houses sink us deeper into Maya
being influenced by Venus or external glitter of things, instead of liberating
us by giving us enlightenment, which is signified by Jupiter, the ruler of 9th
and 12th houses in the Kaalpurush horoscope.
